Meet Joyeuse!

The last born of 5 children, Joyeuse became an orphan at 8 years old. Born and raised in the community neighboring Boneza, she was raised by her elder siblings who struggled to find food and attend school at the same time. Her family was known in the community to be in dire need of help. With the help of local leaders, fellow villagers were encouraged to contribute towards her family’s survival.

Upon hearing about Arise Rwanda’s scholarships for students, the local leaders put Joyeuse on the list of applicants because her middle school education was already complete. Filled with hope for the potential opportunity of continued education, Joyeuse was fortunate to receive a scholarship along with several other peers from her community. She was eager to begin at KHA and moved to the campus dormitory shortly after.

Joyeuse is now a KHA student studying Masonry in grade 11. She has learned hands-on skills that enable her to work at various construction sites when she’s not in school. She is now qualified to apply for internships and jobs that will grow her career, and as a result, her confidence has grown significantly.

When she started her journey at KHA, Joyeuse was worried about fitting in because she had never lived away from her siblings. However, now all her siblings are married and have their own families. Today, she’s very thankful to KHA which has become an extension of her family.

Joyeuse dreams of continuing her education through a university. With her passion and skill in masonry, she plans to become a site engineer someday. Joyeuse gives thanks to KHA, Arise Rwanda, and the generous donors that have changed her life forever.
