Meet Samuel: A KHA Trainee Building His Future in Construction Engineering
Samuel, a 19-year-old from Nyagatare district in the eastern part of Rwanda, is the fifth-born in a family of eight children. Currently, he is a grade 12 trainee at Kivu Hills Academy (KHA) and a proud team player on the KHA Lions soccer team.
He is pursuing building construction and is excited about learning quantifying building materials, roof covering, ceiling activities, and construction scaffoldings this academic year.
Samuel’s favorite lesson at KHA is learning how to elevate a well-leveled, dimensionally stable wall and plastering it afterward. Throughout his time at KHA, he has acquired the following skills:
- Wall elevation
- Plastering
- Tiling
- Floor covering
- Electrical installation
- Plumbing
- Stone construction
When Samuel found out he had been admitted to KHA, he was overjoyed. He considers it the best school he has ever attended since the start of his education.
Samuel was inspired to choose building construction by his parents and successful engineers in the field, who frequently emphasized the benefits of this career path and assured him he was smart enough to excel in it. After KHA, Samuel hopes to continue his studies at a university specializing in engineering. He aims to enhance his skills, achieve financial stability, and support his family.
For Samuel, being a student at KHA represents hard work, unity, and collaboration. He values the way trainees support one another and act as a family. Samuel even likens KHA to a parent, as the teachers not only guide him academically but also offer advice, discipline, and life lessons outside the classroom.
When describing the campus, Samuel said, “The KHA campus is beautiful and conducive, with good and sufficient infrastructure. It is located in the western part of Rwanda, specifically in Rutsiro district near Lake Kivu.”
In the future, Samuel prays to God for the opportunity to contribute to the scholarship program by supporting one or two students at KHA.
