Saleh is a Senior 6 Construction student at Kivu Hills Academy. He chose to join Kivu Hills Academy because of the standard of education as well as the hands-on approach to learning various trades. Unlike most rural schools, the students at KHA are provided all the equipment necessary to master their area of study. Due to his terrific leadership skills, Saleh was offered the position of Senior Prefects’ Advisor.

Saleh is supported by his parents who have a strong belief that access to education provides incredible opportunities for a lifetime. Saleh is grateful that his parents support his education as his family never had the same opportunity. Living in Boneza with his family, Saleh’s mother is a cultivator while his father works both cultivation and trading of clothes. Despite their small businesses and entrepreneurial mindset, the family’s earnings are modest. Regardless, understanding the benefit that KHA provides, Saleh’s parents chose to invest the little money they earn into his education. They believe that Saleh will be of great support to the family in the future. Saleh says that his ambition is to become a prominent engineer in Rwanda. He is very hard working when it comes to studying and he is a leader to other students.

Saleh explains that Kivu Hills Academy has equipped him with entrepreneurial skills, which he is putting to use. He spotted a market for chicken meat and eggs in his community and has started a small scale business. He hopes that once he gains more capital he will grow his business on a larger scale. During his holidays, Saleh helps his parents with cultivation and also works various construction jobs. This helps him meet some of his own financial needs, and alleviates weight on his family.

Kivu Hills Academy is providing Saleh, among many other students, an opportunity to develop skills that directly reflect his career goals in construction, entrepreneurship and leadership. With his grown confidence, Saleh can construct a house from its foundation up to the roofing. He states that in addition to these skills he has also gained several important life values such as integrity, discipline, hard work and creativity. Saleh continues to inspire and lead others in the path they dream of pursuing.
