Meet Ange!

Ange was born in the Rutsiro District located in the western part of Rwanda. She is the second born in a family of 3 boys and 2 girls. At her 18 years of age, Ange considers herself the secondary caregiver of her siblings. She has a lot of responsibilities because her dad left the family 7 years ago. This division within her family shaped her to be a very responsible and mature child. She has always been her mom’s advisor when it comes to solving issues regarding her siblings. Ange and her mom fend for the family by farming on shared agricultural land. This provides some money for food and other provisions.

Even with Ange’s added responsibilities, she never gave up on going to school. She attended the government general education schools from elementary to middle school. She passed the last level of middle school (grade 9) with flying colors, but due to the financial challenges at home, Ange believed there were no more opportunities to help extend her level of education.

Amidst the pain of seeing her peers going back to school, Ange and her family were visited by the Sector Executive of her villages with surprising information that Arise Rwanda was offering educational opportunities to others with little to no chance of going to school due to financial restraints. The family welcomed the great news with a heart full of thanks.

Ange now attends KHA in grade 11 (level 4) and is studying computers and networking. She has learned how to maintain and repair computers, and set up networks, and she is very confident that she will use these skills to earn an income for her family in the future.

Ange’s dream is to work in a networking company and she hopes to have her own internet café in the future.

Ange’s heart goes to all girls struggling to find a second chance at education and she prays for them daily.
