Meet Francois, a KHA Student

At 22 years old, Francois’s story is one marked by challenges, resilience, and the transformative power of education. Raised with his two siblings, a sister and brother, Francois is the youngest in his family faced with the harsh reality of life without the guiding presence of his father.

Francois’s education began at the age of 7, a journey that took an unexpected turn when, at the tender age of 11, he had to drop out of school. The financial strain on his family became insurmountable, rendering them unable to afford his education any longer. Three years passed in a hiatus from formal education, a period where Francois navigated the challenges of poverty with unwavering determination.

By the grace of God and fueled by an indomitable spirit, Francois re-entered the realm of education at the age of 14. The hiatus did not dampen his enthusiasm for learning; rather, it became a testament to his resilience. During his childhood, Francois found solace and joy in the fields of soccer and volleyball, activities that painted his youth with the vibrant hues of sportsmanship.

A turning point in Francois’s life came when his former principal, aware of the hardships his family faced, recommended him to his local sector officer. This recommendation served as the gateway to a new chapter – joining Kivu Hills Academy (KHA). With the support and opportunity provided by KHA, Francois found renewed hope for the future. Now in grade 12, specializing in construction and masonry, he envisions a future where he can establish his own business and break free from the shackles of poverty.

Francois, in his free time, cherishes conversations with friends and holds a deep love for God. The gratitude he expresses towards KHA and Arise Rwanda echoes the sentiment of countless individuals whose lives have been touched by these organizations. In the embrace of education and support, Francois sees KHA and Arise Rwanda not just as benefactors, but as parental figures, providing hope and a path forward for those who once believed the future was beyond their reach. The story of Francois is a testament to the transformative power of education, resilience, and the unwavering support that can change the trajectory of a life.
