Joseline

18 Years Old
Lives in Boneza, Rwanda
Student at Kivu Hills Academy

Joseline is 18 years old and she grew up with both her parents and 3 sisters. Her mother and father were not legally married, which led to her mother being rejection from her father’s family. After Joseline’s father married, he abandoned them and they never got any shares from her father’s farms. Joseline’s mother worked so hard as a single mother to take care of them and raise them to be responsible children. Their father lost his life to Diabetes in 2017 and Joseline always grieves at the fact that they never got to spend his last days with him.

Her eldest sister started being sickly and life became really hard because she couldn’t work anymore to help their mother in providing for the family. Joseline’s mother managed to pay for her and her 2 siblings tuition to go to school. However, senior 3 was a hard year for her because her mother couldn’t afford to pay for her school fees anymore and she asked her to drop out instead and help her with finding small jobs as a way of earning a living. She struggled to stay in school and constantly missed classes but nevertheless, Joseline managed to finish ordinary level.

Ever since ARM started building Kivu Hills Academy, it had always been Joseline’s dream to go to attend because her home is right on the hill opposite the school. Joseline loves being in school and enjoyed meeting different students from different schools. She is learning how to speak English and her teachers are very helpful and kind in sharing their knowledge. She also loves the food at school as most of the food she had not eaten in her life.

Joseline is studying tourism and hopes to be a tour guide after her studies and show off her beautiful country to the visitors.
