Hello, my name is Straton!

I am a student at Kivu Hills Academy (KHA) studying in the trade of Masonry. Another passion of mine is music. I love playing piano during our school chapel and leading worship. As an entrepreneur, during holidays I enjoy running a small café at my house where I sell tea and donuts. My goal is to become a civil engineer and entrepreneur. My dream is to start the first store like “Home Depot” in this country because in Rwanda we lack a lot of tools for construction.

My family is composed of both my parents and 9 siblings! My parents, like most people in Boneza, are farmers growing all the crops we eat in our community. My family grows potatoes, beans, corn, cassava and about 500 coffee trees. We make about $1 per pound of coffee we sell to the local coffee washing station. We also fish in Lake Kivu. Despite my family’s success in farming, my parents struggle to afford school for my siblings and me.

I’m so grateful to have been gifted a scholarship for my education as it provides me with everything I need for success in life. Thank you for your generous support and for changing my life!
